Atheists share only one thing in common: we are god-free. Apart from that we come from all sorts of different backgrounds and we have all sorts of interests and beliefs. Some of us as very liberal, some are socialists, some are conservatives (small "c" and large "C"). We tend to share a desire to question almost everything so putting two atheists together is an almost certain way to start a discussion/argument about something or other - though not about "the god bit" - that we don't need to argue about.
We atheists don't need to get together to reinforce our non-belief and, like most people, we often have busy family, social or work lives. We don't need to sit around for hours discussing reasons why we don't believe in something or praying to a god that we neither need nor believe in.
Some of our supporters are very active locally representing the atheist/humanist line on all sorts of bodies - they simply do not have the time to be both active and to organise talks or debates
How does someone new find out about us?
After visiting this site (the Philosophy menu above is a good place to start) we recommend reading our booklet "A Guide to Humanism" which may be obtained free of charge by contacting us.
We can arrange one-to-one (or more) meetings at very short notice. If anyone wants to find out about us, or to discuss their changing ideas in relation to god and religion, we are happy to organise something at a mutually convenient time.
There is a lot of information on this site, and in the books and DVDs listed under the Resources menu above. We are always very happy to engage in email or phone conversations with anyone who wishes to find out more.
When events in the world require it we circulate an email newsletter - contact us to get on the mailing list.
